Hi all and Happy New Year, with a special welcome to all of our new members - lots going on in January at the Art League of Daytona!

ANNUAL MEMBERS’ EXHIBITION

Deliver work on Tuesday, Jan. 3, Wednesday, Jan.4, and Thursday, Jan.5 between 900 and 400 pm. Two entries per member, fee $20.00 each piece. All media, no size restrictions (but please keep in mind that we use a rod and hook hanging system). All hanging works must be securely wired across the back. Registration forms will be available at delivery.
Awards reception on Sunday, Jan. 8, from 100 to 400 pm; we usually announce the awards at 200 pm. Members are asked to bring a plate of finger food or beverage of choice to the reception.

PAN PASTEL DEMONSTRATION

Karen Ann Patton will be demonstrating landscape painting with an exciting new product, Pan Pastels, at the reception on Jan. 8, in Studio A. Take advantage of this opportunity to see Karen’s work and ask her about her Wednesday pastel class at the Art League.

ART LEAGUE CALENDAR SIGNING

Fred Samuelson will also be on hand at the reception to sign copies of his 2012 art calendar that was created for us by the Pennysaver company; the calendars are complimentary for our members and guests, but donations are always appreciated!

“BRUSHING UP ON BASICS” CLASS

This class is designed to address basic art knowledge and technique, starting with “Tonal Values”, “Acrylic Painting Technique”, and “Drawing Without Fear”, and is recommended for beginning and intermediate artists who want to add to their ongoing education. (Hey, not all of us got to go to art school, myself included!)

We’ll start by developing a still life composition in black and white, and move on to color. Students will work from our set-up, or from their own photographic reference, in acrylic or gouache.

Rose Ann Samuelson will be the primary instructor, bringing many years of teaching and creating award-winning acrylic paintings to the classroom. Pretty much everything I know about acrylic painting, I learned from Rose Ann.

I will be on hand periodically as a teaching assistant, so that everyone will receive lots of individual attention.

The first class, from 100 to 400 on Friday, January 6, is a “freebie” to get you started. For students continuing on, the weekly fee is $15.00 for members and $18.00 for nonmembers. Starting in week 2, we will have handouts and also black-and-white and color copies of reference materials for you. As those of you who have been in my classes in the past know, I am highly in favor of handouts!

If you have any questions on any of these activities, please feel free to email me - see you soon - cheers - Robin
