Art League of Daytona - Gallery News Wednesday, May 5, 2010 8:00 PM From: "Wonderlandxpress@aol.com" <Wonderlandxpress@aol.com> Hi all - since we have quite a few new members, we would like to give everyone an overview of all the exhibition opportunities that we have coming up at the Art League of Daytona. Coming up in July, we will have our annual “Figuratively Speaking” show, featuring the human form in an environment. The show is open to all Florida artists, and all media. Members will be getting a mailer with more details and entry forms, but here is some of the pertinent information: 1. Each artist may enter up to three works. Entry fee is $20.00 per work. 2. Delivery will be on Wednesday, July 7; Thursday, July 8; and Friday, July 9, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you need to make other arrangements, please contact me and we will be glad to work it out. 3. The awards ceremony will be on Sunday, July 11, from 100 to 400 pm. Please note that our hanging system only accommodates work that is securely wired across the back. Snap and loop-type hangers will not work with our system. There are no size limitations, but extremely heavy works will be hung in Studio A. We STRONGLY recommend simple framing and, where applicable, white, off-white, or black mats. Also coming in 2010 - the “Members Showcase” in October; We are pleased to announce that starting in 2011 we are adding an additional juried theme show to our schedule. The inaugural “American Stories” theme show will be held in May, and will be open to all Florida artists and all media. We are anticipating taking up to three entries per artist. This theme covers a lot of territory! Following are just a few American Stories suggestions: 1. The decades - the events, people, politics, movies, books, music etc. that defined the years, from early time up to the present. 2. Places - from the well-known - national parks, monuments, highways and by-ways, historical sites, to the specific - places in your own neighborhood or back yard. 3. People - celebrities, the famous and the infamous, to your own relatives, friends, and family. 4. Social and political issues, the events that changed us for the better or for the worse. 5. Family memories - growing up, school days, friendships, family events. These are just a few ideas; if you have other suggestions, please let me know and we can share ideas over the coming year. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me! Cheers - Robin Moore, Exhibition Coordinator |
