PROJECT MURAL
Halifax Rehabilitation Center:

Art League members assisting Sharon Friedman in painting a mural on two hallway walls (totalling 40 feet long by 8 feet tall) in the pediatric ward of the Halifax Rehabilitation Center. The theme is a beach scene with whimsical beach and ocean creatures. The volunteers followed Sharon’s initial plan, but embellished the scene with their creative imaginations. Volunteers helping with the project were: Sharon’s husband Dr. Jeff Friedman, daughter Heather,Peggy Landeen, Marion Adler, Connie Krzyzowski, Nan Jacoby, Antoinette Hickey, Lola Lawrence, Jane Owen, Harriet Damesek, Ella Lawless, Janie Lewandowski, Kathleen Lusby and Pat Guido. The Center’s nurses and patients are all delighted with the outcome and were so helpful—providing coffee and juice and offering us encouragement as the volunteers worked.

CALL FOR ARTISTS’ WORK FOR INAUGURAL “ART LEAGUE CALENDAR”

We are pleased to announce we are in the planning stages of the inaugural “Art League Calendar” for 2007 featuring artwork by our members.

If you would like to be considered for inclusion, please submit the following by mail or in person to the Art League by June 30, 2006.

1. A camera-ready image of your artwork (one piece per member), in the form of a sharp-focused photography (or slide) or a high-resolution computer printout on good quality paper.

2. A completed application form (available at the League).

Artwork will be selected by the League’s staff and calendar committee—any work not chosen will be kept on file for the following year. Our hope is to include—over time—as many members as possible.

Our tentative plan is to have the calendars available for purchase at the November 2006 gallery opening with participating artists present to sign their pages.

THANK YOU:

• Stan & Suzanne Clark for providing Alex Powers with lodging and escorting him to and from the Art League.

• Deborah Elmquist for offering lodging in her home to Michael Siegel during his workshop in March.

• Leona Haas for arranging a wonderful Member’s Award luncheon on January 7 at the Indigo Golf Club.

Gallery Sitting: Please help us with sitting the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.  This is so important for us to be open these days for the public to visit our shows and of course our "Members' Gallery."

Members Gallery: Bring your paintings in (no wider than 42") to be hung in the "Members Gallery." We have been successful in selling paintings from this area, but even if your work doesn't sell, it's a place to show your work. Visitors have often remarked about the work in this gallery, enjoying them sometimes more than the current show in the main galleries. And, we are proud to show off the work of our very talented members.
