Thanks for your quick response! MEMBERS’ SHOWCASE 2006: DECISIONS ARE USBy Mildred KanbarEverything we do is based on a decision we make. What is appropriate for the moment, the situation, the way we feel. Fritz Perls so aptly decribed the fleeting way we think, in “In and Out the Garbage Pail." P.L. Thompson starts the day by "Examining the Face of the Day" exulting in its splendor. Deep "In Thought," Jim Cassidy's sculpture catches the indecisiveness which prevails at the moment as he seeks insights to help him find the path he needs to follow. In Nancy Hagood's “The Poet," each word, each phrase must be weighed to bring the poem to life. It may be trivial to some, but not to the woman in Peter Cerreta's "Boxful of Treasures" who must decide whether the pearls would do for the occasion. The choice is ours when we allow people to enter our lives. Jon R. Miller has reached a decision in "Come in Charles" which took much aforethought since "Charles" is half hidden waiting patiently to be allowed to enter. The woman in Ed Rimassa's "Innocense" faces a difficult decision. Will it be between the naked babes tugging at her skirt begging her not to fall from grace or succumb to the men ogling for her attention. Her manner is flirtatious, the choice half made. Edward M. Ajello's "The Dreamer" brings us a young girl staring into the future. She sees so many avenues, so many options, all positive expression judging from the expression on her face. "Off the Shoulder" may not be your choice or my choice, but Janie Lewandowski's sculpture tells us it is the latest thing in the attire of our young girls. Throughout our lives we focus on the beauty of nature. We see it in many art forms. An inner peace pervades when we recapture it M.T. Williams finds it in "Stoney Fingers" and "Stoney Inlet" when she finds the right light and best position to photograph the rocks which are as beautiful as the sunsets above. The beauty of the "Synchronized Flamingos" capture the imagination of Lola Lawrence in her photograph of their dance. Peter V. Vaccaro's "The Tribe," finds man throughout the centuries welded into one totem. Along the way, Jon R Miller's "A Cross to Bare" finds man, strong, standing tall, upholding his ideals, not bowing down before turbaned judges. In Mindy Z. Colton's sculpture, "Sanctuary-My Heart Flies to Heaven" we see a heart, wings and a horse. Riding her horse, wind in her face, she is one with the universe. We can find our inner sanctuaries everywhere if we would but look. Studio A student exhibits have been a wonderful addition to our main gallery shows. The November show, now going on, is still life paintings by Deborah Elmquist and her students. Future Studio A shows are: Barbara Perrotti and her students in January; Palette & Brush Club in February; Robin Moore and her students in March; Elaine Vice and her students in April. Gallery Sitting: Please help us with sitting the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. This is so important for us to be open these days for the public to visit our shows and of course our "Members' Gallery." Members Gallery: Bring your paintings in (no wider than 42") to be hung in the "Members Gallery." We have been successful in selling paintings from this area, but even if your work doesn't sell, it's a place to show your work. Visitors have often remarked about the work in this gallery, enjoying them sometimes more than the current show in the main galleries. And, we are proud to show off the work of our very talented members. |
FRAMING INFORMATION:Many new members ask about framing so we plan to have a demonstration and workshops soon on this subject.
