GENERAL MEETING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2006 • 1:00 PMPRESENTATION BY THE ZONE GALLERYAfter a short business meeting, Craig Cavaluzzi and Scott Goldy from the Zone Gallery will be on hand to introduce you to giclee printing, which this local company is well-known for. Reproductions of your original art, digital photography, and computer graphics can be printed on the media of your choice. They will show you how cost effective it is to have all your print work done by professionals, who care and who are trained in the nuances of subtle color management and other fine art details. They also are offering Art League members a 30% discount off all art reproduction services. “ALTERNATE VISIONS”Opened on September 10, 2006Artwork by Peter Cerreta & Karin StoeverLaura Stewart, fine Arts Writer for the News Journal wrote an article in the Sunday, September 10 edition of the Journal: “Among the nearly 75 pieces in “Alternate Visions,” the two artist exhibit that goes on view during today’s opening reception at the Art League of Daytona Beach, are terra cotta sculptures, photo-montages and mixed media works. All are by two Palm Coast artists, former New Yorker Peter Cerreta and German native Karin Stover, and all coordinate well, said Connie Krzyzowski, the Art League’s president and curator.” Connie said, “We have abut 60 wall pieces and more than 10 sculptures, so they will fill both galleries. The photo-montages are really unusual, and both artists’ works are very unusual in terms of their visions.” Peter and Karin, both have a large following and both are respected artists in their fields—sculpture and photography. We had almost 300 visitors at the opening, many of whom came to view the work by these two exceptional artists. Peter Cerreta teaches sculpture at the League and his classes will be starting Saturday October 28. As someone at the opening said “the shows just keep getting better and better! Click here to view opening photos. The 80’s exhibit was great! Next year the Art League will turn 75 years old so to celebrate, we will exhibit art by members 75 years old and up in Studio A. 80’s Show (Octogenarians) - Sept. 10Studio A’s exhibit the “80’s Show” drew friends, students, and admirers of the work done by the artists who’s work are being shown in this special exhibit celebrating their milestone birthdays. All of these artists are very accomplished and their work depicts the talent and experience that only working many years brings. Two of the artists are League teachers: Don Renner is our Portrait painting teacher and Fred Samuelson will be conducting a water media workshop on December 9 and 10 (see flyer enclosed in this newsletter). Congratulations to all on your birthdays and your beautiful artwork! Dick Ajalat has been a member (and is now the president of the Trustees) for many years and has won many awards for his paintings. Award winners Ed Ajello, Peggy Landeen and Suzanne Clark have also been long-time Art League members. Ed Ajello is on the Trustee board and both Peggy and Suzanne are on the Executive board. Leona Haas has been on the executive board in the past and has been an important part of the League for many years. She also has won many awards here at the League and with the Florida Watercolor Society shows. Congratulations on your birthdays and the wonderful show! Click here to view opening photos.

Gallery Sitting: Please help us with sitting the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. This is so important for us to be open these days for the public to visit our shows and of course our "Members' Gallery." Members Gallery: Bring your paintings in (no wider than 42") to be hung in the "Members Gallery." We have been successful in selling paintings from this area, but even if your work doesn't sell, it's a place to show your work. Visitors have often remarked about the work in this gallery, enjoying them sometimes more than the current show in the main galleries. And, we are proud to show off the work of our very talented members. |
FRAMING INFORMATION:Many new members ask about framing so we plan to have a demonstration and workshops soon on this subject. Our more experienced members recommend the following commercial framers: • Tropical Frame & Art Center (20% discount to artists), • Southern Paint gives a 20% discount on art supplies, 239 S.
