Special Update on
Stacy Barter’s Workshop

Floral & Still Life Oil Painting Workshop with Stacy Barter

Changed to Three-Days
April 9, 10 & 11, 2007
(Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday)

 3 Days - $225

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to study with a master artist!

The schedule and the cost of Stacy Barter’s workshop has changed due to many requests to make the workshop three days instead of four, which also reduces the cost. Hopefully this will make it easier to participate. Stacy is such a special artist, and we are proud to have her workshop here at the League.

If you are interested, please call Nan at the League (386-258-3856) and let her know if you plan to attend. Time is growing short and we need to know if there is enough students to fill this. We would need a deposit of $100 to hold your space. The balance will be due by Monday, April 9, 2007.

(Note: Correct dates are April 9, 10 & 11, 2007, changed from workshop description page.)

“REMIX-GATHERINGS”

March 4 - 29, 2007

Laura Stewart, Fine Arts Writer for the News Journal wrote in the Friday March 2 issue, “The idea is that the artists were inspired by “gatherings,” scraps or discarded elements that they incorporated into their work, said Art League president Connie Krzyzowski who organized the exhibit with co-curator Robin Moore.” Work by Mara Whitridge was featured in the article.

About 60 works by 15 area artists were on display which made for an original and exciting show!

Click here for views of the opening of “Remix-Gatherings” —this opening was well-attended with about 300 art enthusiasts viewing the artworks.

ELAINE VICE’S
WATERCOLOR CLASS

STUDIO A EXHIBIT - MARCH 4-29

The walls of Studio A were aglow with 102 watercolor paintings by Elaine and her students. Among the 300 visitors to the main gallery’s exhibit were students, friends and family of these watercolor artists. These artists also showed their creativity in the food they brought to the opening! The overall quality and the artwork was superb and showed the results of excellent instruction and a lot of talent among these artists. Click here for scenes from Elaine's students' exhibit.

Quite a few pieces were sold from both exhibits this month.!

Exciting Future Exhibits

We have enjoyed the class shows in Studio A by our teachers and their students. But starting in June we have new plans. We will be having special theme shows giving all of our members an opportunity to participate. Some of these shows will have awards.

Art on the Patio - Plus!

At some of our monthly openings, we will be inviting our members to set up their work on the patio and Art League grounds. If you have tent and displays, contact us so we can put you on the list.

“A Fanciful Festival of Holiday Art”

At the December show we will have a one-day holiday bazaar in conjunction with the opening reception on Sunday, December 2 of the Volusia County student and VSA show. Interested artists should contact Robin Moore or Nan for more information: 386-258-3856.

PATRON’S NIGHT - A GALA
EVENING OF ART & MUSIC

This very popular event is being planned for Sunday, November 11. Our members will be donating beautiful works of art and we will be offering tickets for this event. Tickets for this event will be $150 to acquire one of these works of art valued at $200-$500. Brochures coming soon!

GAIL RUSSKOV, WILL TEACH
“PAPER BAG BOOKS”

Mixed media artist Gail Russakov will be teaching her two-week “Paper Bag Books” class during Robin Moore’s Tuesday morning classes on May 1 and May 8 from 9:00 am to noon. Artists’ books are very popular right now, and both experienced artist and those wishing to learn about collage and mixed media techniques will enjoy this class. There are a few spaces available for the classes—the cost is $35 which covers both classes and some supplies. If interested, contact Robin Moore to register and to obtain a supply list.

SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS’ INTERVIEWS

Will be conducted on April 18 from 3:00-5:00 pm. The scholarship pays for two semesters at Daytona Beach Community College, tuition only. Applications are at the Art League if you know any student who would be interested. Don Kennedy and other teachers will be interviewing.

MARGARET DYER’S WORKSHOP

Below are photos of Margaret Dyer demonstrating her method of painting the figure during her workshop March 16-18. The workshop was filled and we had a waiting list of people hoping to attend. This was a very successful workshop with two models alternating between classrooms wearing several costumes. We hope to have Margaret back in the near future. Click here for photos of the workshop participants at work.

ROBIN MOORE’S COLLAGE DEMONSTRATION

Below are photos of Robin Moore demonstrating the art of collage at the General Membership Meeting on March 14. Robin is a very creative collage artist and it’s always a delight to watch her work. Robin has collage classes on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Click for details.

“A DAY WITH DEBORAH” - Below are photos of Deborah Elmquist demonstrating painting a still life in oils on Wednesday, March 21. Those who attended were treated to a morning-long demonstration, and found the demonstration answered some of their on-going questions about painting a still life. Thank you Debbie for providing the Art League with this informative demo.

Happy Birthday Nan!

Below is Robin Moore with Rada Oakley. Robin proudly announced that Rada’s work was honored by being selected to be displayed in HGTV‘s Colorado Dream House.

Gallery Sitting: Please help us with sitting the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.  This is so important for us to be open these days for the public to visit our shows and of course our "Members' Gallery."

Members Gallery: Bring your paintings in (no wider than 42") to be hung in the "Members Gallery." We have been successful in selling paintings from this area, but even if your work doesn't sell, it's a place to show your work. Visitors have often remarked about the work in this gallery, enjoying them sometimes more than the current show in the main galleries. And, we are proud to show off the work of our very talented members.
