ENZO TRAPANI

Enzo Trapani finished medical school early in life, came to the United States in search of other opportunities with a goal of being a doctor in medicine but always living under the shadows of being creative and becoming a true artist.

Now, at age 47 and having accomplished his goal of being a Medical Doctor of neurology, he has just started walking another path pursuing his dream of art, feeling that it will bring him closer to God.

KIMBERLY WILCOX

Kimberly Willcox puts a contemporary spin on primitive forms. Her sculptures have been described as Soulful, whimsical, primitive and kinetically alive. Her artwork echoes unrestrained imagination and originality.

"My aesthetic decisions are based on intuition and driven by my obsession to constantly make and create art. My work has never been constrained to a single medium as I prefer to work with a range of materials and techniques. I love to discover the unexpected and to leave room for spontaneity."

CLYDE FINNER

Clyde Finner's life as a photographer probab1y began after I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He bought a Kodak Brownie and began documenting his friends, family and the places He was stationed. When He retired, he experimented with many of the avenues of the art and finally settled on a form called Posterization. This Genre allows him to manipulate black and white negatives into high contrast color prints. As a result, the elements of the image are not depicted in their true colors. The two exceptions: the sky is blue and the grass is green. The subject for my images are of machinery and structures that are old, broken, no longer useful or, in the case of architecture, have interesting features. "I am always on the lookout for old stuff to capture on film," says Clyde of his work

REFLECTIONS IN PASTEL

Artwork by Christophe Cardot & Hillary Gross, Sculpture by Scott Hiestand

Laura Stewart, Fine Arts Writer for the News-Journal, wrote, “Each of the 70 or so works in “Reflections in Pastel” offers a vivid impression of natural Florida. But together at the Art League of Daytona Beach, the two and three-dimensional works in the new exhibit are sure to create a full, rich environment.

There’s definitely a nature theme here, with views of Florida,” Said Connie Krzyzowski, president of the art League and the show’s curator. She chose the three Central Florida artists who share “Reflections” because of their strong sense of color – and the way their colors go together.

Christophe and Hillary both work in Pastels, but Christophe uses oil pastels while Hillary’s are the chalk-type pastels. And Scott makes his realistic sculptures with wire and plaster cloth, leaving some wire showing and painting them with acrylics.

BOARD MEMBER HUSBANDS
TO THE RESCUE

Bevan Vice brought in his DVD player and set it up with the Art league’s TV so we could enjoy Harold Garde’s video on Strappo at the General Membership Meeting.

Greg Krzyzowski cleaned out our gutters. They fill often with the tiny leaves from the Live Oak trees. And Greg cleans them almost monthly!

Robert Hovan fixed the air conditioner in the back gallery the day before our Opening in May. Without his timely repair we would have had a very uncomfortable Opening.

Stanley Clark makes all our labels for newsletters and invitations. Without him we never would get the mailing done!

THANK-YOU! THANK-YOU! THANK-YOU!

2007 POT LUCK LUNCHEON AND GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

The turn out for the May Meeting was Great. The food even better! The Art League furnished the ham which Elaine Vice cooked for us and the members brought their best kitchen work. What a treat! ART ON THE PATIO: " SALE" INTO SUMMER EVENT

Our inaugural "Art on the Patio" event will be held in conjunction with the Sunday, June 3 gallery reception, from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Art League. Our members will be displaying their work for sale on the patio and front lawn, weather permitting. "

Any artists interested in participating can contact Robin Moore by phone (441-3330) or email: wonderlandxpress@aol.com.

Let's make this a great kick-off for this program!

EXHIBITION PARTlCIPATION SURVEY

Starting in 2007, we are proposing various new exhibition opportunities at the Art league of Daytona Beach in order to maximize participation by All our members.

Studio "A" will be used to showcase theme exhibits, small group shows of member artists, and other types of shows such as the work donated to Patrons' Night and the Palette and Brush Club Members' Show. In December of 2007 we will have a miniature show open to all members; which we hope will generate holiday sales!

We are also planning to start an "Art on the Patio" program as weather permits, wherein our members may display fine art and fine crafts on the patio on the afternoon of the monthly gallery openings. Members may use their own tents or a table provided by the Art league, subject to availability.

We also need volunteers to help make these programs a reality! To that end, we would like to develop a "pool" of members willing to donate a few hours of time on an "as needed" basis. A wide variety of assignments will be offered, and no donation of time will be considered too small.

Please complete the following survey and return it to the Art league of Daytona Beach; if you have any . questions contact Robin Moore at the Art league on Thursdays during business hours, or email the Art league - artleague@bellsouth.net - and please put "Exhibition Survey" in the title line. We would love to have you include a slide or photo of your work if possible.

Members Gallery: Bring your paintings in (no wider than 42") to be hung in the "Members Gallery." We have been successful in selling paintings from this area, but even if your work doesn't sell, it's a place to show your work.
