MINIATURE ART SALE at the “Re-Mix Gatherings” Show - March 4-29In conjunction with the “Gatherings” exhibit at the Art League the “Re-Mix” multiple media artists are donating small works of art to be sold for the benefit of the Art League. These 4x4” and 5x5” multiple-media works on gallery wrapped canvas will be on display in the small gallery and may be purchased during the course of the exhibit for $50 each. The entire purchase price will be retained by the League. Don’t miss the opportunity to add one of these small treasures to your collection and help the Art League! Martin Jacoby, Art League member and Nan's husband passed away February 2nd. I wish to thank everyone for the sympathy cards, kind words and phone calls. CONGRATULATIONS DON RENNER!
Don has been painting portraits for more than 30 years. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and with a professional portrait artist. Living in Spain for a year he produced impressions of matadors, peasants, and landscapes. During his sojourn in Spain, he won first prize at the International Art Competition in Gibraltar. A member of the Portrait Society of America and a Coast Guard Artist, he has participated in numerous exhibitions and one man shows. His paintings are included in many private collections in the U.S. and Europe. He has been interviewed on radio and television and has been the subject of various art-related articles. Don paints in oils from live sittings or photographs, which he prefers to take himself. He has painted portraits of many celebrities such as Robert Wagner and Virginia Graham. He has also painted portraits for the State of Florida along with many private commissioned paintings. He painted 32 paintings, which were installed in the ceiling of the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale (a two-year project). If you are interested in portrait painting, join his class for the excellent instruction you would receive there. He has a live model, who sits for three sessions, enabling the artists to complete a finished portrait, or you can work from a photo of your choice.
“HIGHWAYS & BYWAYS” - Foxfire plein air painters&“TAKE COVER: ART AT RISK” - Art ChixAt the opening on February 4, the galleries were filled with Art League members and art enthusiasts enjoying the wonderful plein air paintings by the Foxfire plein air painters (exhibitors shown on right) and the mixed media hand-made books created by the members of the Art Chix. Laura Stewart, Fine Arts Writer, wrote an article on the exhibit in the Friday, February 2 issue of the News Journal and her comments were very favorable (We have a copy of the article at the Art League.) The Art League is pleased with the response to our efforts to find sponsors for awards for our member shows. The list on the right shows the sponsors that have pledged to support this program. The members' shows where these awards will be presented are:
Click here for the flyer concerning the sponsor program. And we still have copies in the foyer if you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a sponsor. As a sponsor, your contribution will help the Art league (a non-profit organization) to recognize, reward, and encourage our members to continue to grow as artists, both wihtin the Art League and in the community. |

Gallery Sitting: Please help us with sitting the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. This is so important for us to be open these days for the public to visit our shows and of course our "Members' Gallery." Members Gallery: Bring your paintings in (no wider than 42") to be hung in the "Members Gallery." We have been successful in selling paintings from this area, but even if your work doesn't sell, it's a place to show your work. Visitors have often remarked about the work in this gallery, enjoying them sometimes more than the current show in the main galleries. And, we are proud to show off the work of our very talented members. |
FRAMING INFORMATION:Many new members ask about framing so we plan to have a demonstration and workshops soon on this subject. Our more experienced members recommend the following commercial framers: • Tropical Frame & Art Center (20% discount to artists), • Southern Paint gives a 20% discount on art supplies, 239 S.
