Brushing up on Acrylics Basics
New Class with Rose Ann Samuelson

October 31, 2011

We are very pleased to announce that Rose Ann Samuelson will be starting a new acrylic painting class at the Art League of Daytona on Fridays, beginning on Friday, January 6, 2012, from 100 to 400 pm.

Classes are $15.00 per class for members, $18.00 for non-members. The first class for any new student will be free. (See note below).

“BRUSHING UP ON BASICS”

Topics to be covered:
1. Learning to identify and paint tonal values in black and white.
2. Translating black and white tonal values into color, basic color mixing.
3. Incorporating tonal values into paintings, working from either studio still life set-up or student’s own reference material.
4. Basic acrylic technique, taking advantage of the nature of the medium.

Supplies:

1. Supports - canvas or canvas pad.
2. Pigments - black and white, and whatever other colors you have. Rose Ann will give you suggestions for what you might want to add to your palette.
3. Brushes, rags, painting palette ( a piece of freezer paper makes an excellent and inexpensive palette!). Rose Ann will advise you as to what brushes you might like to add.

NOTE: Students attending the free class will start a new project incorporating Rose Ann’s instruction. Please do not bring any works currently in progress - thank you!

This class is for all levels of experience, and is especially appropriate for beginners and intermediates (although those of us who have been painting longer than we care to remember will attest that it never hurts to revisit the basics!).

On a personal note, I learned pretty much everything I know about acrylic painting from Rose Ann, and credit her for stopping me from throwing all my acrylic paints unceremoniously into the garbage can. She is an amazing teacher and thoroughly knowledgeable, so don’t miss this opportunity.

Please let us know if you are interested in this class - cheers - Robin Moore
