“Channeling the Abstract Expressionists” with Gail Bokor
Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, 900 to 400 Members – $165.00, non-members, $180
Prepare to enter into a period of time in our history where a group of artists transitioned into a different way of painting. At the time it was named “action painting” and in this group named the Abstract Expressionists, were Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler and many more. Their individual styles were created by each responding to their emotions. They lived in a time in New York City, having gone through the trauma of WWII and the aftermath.
You will be working on raw canvas that has not been stretched, using acrylic paints and mediums, and will be following in the footsteps of at least these three artists who set the stage for our contemporary abstract and non-objective art. This type of action painting can be very therapeutic as well as you express emotions with the paint and action used. Even though it seems to be done very spontaneously, these art pioneers were compositionally aware with each of their methods of painting.
