November 11, 12, and 13 – 900 am to 400 pm. Members $225.00, nonmembers $250.00.
This workshop, with award-winning artist and instructor Marta Crawford, will take students through every phase of her creative process. Marta will provide high-resolution reference photos as the main source for student work.
Students will learn:
- How to prepare their paper.
- How to achieve the best possible composition.
- How to find and identify all the planes in the head.
Marta will emphasize finding values and placement, and drawing techniques that will ensure an accurate likeness. Most importantly, students will find inspiration and fun in the humble but powerful black medium of charcoal.
Marta will cover every stage of the drawing with a demonstration lasting one and one-half hour each day.
Below is a slide show of Marta’s charcoal portraits; the first image, “The Thinker”, was published in the International Artists magazine 2016 issue, in the Master’s Showcase section. This work also won 8th Place in the Portrait Society of America’s Non-Commission Portrait category.[Gallery not found]
