BIO

Ruth Howell, a multimedia artist, brings her visions to life using a diverse range of mediums, including gouache, acrylics, oils, watercolors, and pen and ink. Her work reflects her interests in travel, history and the creative process.

Having recently moved from Michigan to Florida, she has found that painting en plein air is the ideal way to immerse herself in the state’s rich history and distinctive landscape.

Ruth graduated from the University of Michigan’s School of Art and Design with a BFA in drawing and painting and continued her education at Detroit’s Center for Creative Studies.

She began her career as a graphic designer and for over 20 years taught classes in oil painting, watercolor, colored pencil, pastel, mixed media, and plein air at Midland’s Center for the Arts and Studio 23 in mid-Michigan.

She has served on the Stamps Alumni Juried Exhibition Committee at the University of Michigan and as a juror, lecturer, and demo artist for many fine art organizations. Her artwork is in private collections across the country and has been shown in many juried exhibitions, including Art Prize, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
