ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Carolyn was born and grew up in the New York City metropolitan area and was exposed to the creative process at an early age. She has a BA in Art Education and an MA in Education plus another 33 credits in administration and fine arts.
She has been a lifelong educator and has presented several papers on “Motivation for Learning: Through the Arts”. She has taught on all levels from pre-school through college. She is the recipient of many awards and has paintings in both private and corporate collections.
ABOUT THE CLASS
In this four-week workshop we will explore several way to make a textured surface for your painting. You will need to use a hard surface for backing: Illustration Board, Canvas Board, Cradle Board, or a plywood panel. We will build a textured surface with various papers, cardboard, fabric etc., and cover the surface with Gesso. You will then paint over the surface and burnish with a brush to bring out the texture of what lies beneath, continually adding more color. The second project will be using commercial products to make the texture. When this is dry, you will add a wash of watered-down paint to see what you have to work with. You will then apply acrylic paint to create a vibrant and interesting textured painting. You will need two or three surfaces to work on, acrylic paint to paint your paintings. A house painting brush for banishing, smaller brushes for adding detail. There will be a supply fee for the commercial products of $35.00
