Workshop Description:
Discover a vibrant new way to paint!
In this exciting workshop, you’ll explore watercolor batik — a luminous fusion of watercolor and wax on delicate Japanese rice paper. Using a modern twist on the age-old batik process (where melted wax is applied to fabric to resist dye), you’ll layer rich color, shimmering highlights, and dramatic shadows to create artwork with gorgeous texture and depth.
We’ll start with a simple drawing, then dive right into technique: how to build light and shadow, when and where to apply hot wax to preserve details, and how to develop that signature batik “crackle” effect.ditional brushwork…read more

Artist Bio:
Painted by artist Ryan Fox. Ryan Fox is a signature member of the American & National (AWS, NWS) as well as numerous state and regional societies. Ryan has won awards in The American Watercolor Society (AWS), Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, Missouri Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society (GWS), and Watercolor Society of North Carolina juried shows. His work has been featured in Watercolor Artist Magazine, Art of Watercolour, and Splash 15, 16, 19 & 20 hardcover books published by F+W Media. This painting is based on the artist’s original travel photograph (or imagination).
